Signe Pike "Faery Tale"

Talk & Signing with Signe Pike: Faery Tale

Join Watkins Books at the magical ‘tween hour of 6 PM on Friday June 10th as author Signe Pike entertains you with mystical, charming, and adventurous readings from her memoir, Faery Tale. After the devastating loss of her father, Pike left her career as a book editor in Manhattan to rediscover a lost sense of enchantment in life. In her tour through Mexico, England, Ireland, Scotland and beyond, she takes readers along with her to dark glens and abandoned forests, ancient sacred sites, and local pubs, seeking those who still believe in the elusive beings we call faeries. As Pike at- tempts to connect with the spirit world—and reconnect with her own sense of wonder and purpose—she comes to view both herself and the world around her in a profoundly new light.

Signe Pike now lives and writes full-time in Charleston, South Carolina, with her husband, two pets, and of course, their resident faeries. She is currently at work on her next exploration into things unseen. Visit her website at www.signepike.com

Patrice Chaplin

“The Portal” by Patrice Chaplin – Talk & Book Signing at Watkins

Come over to Watkins Books on Wednesday, April 6th, for a great opportunity to meet Patrice Chaplin and hear her talk about The Portal. The true-life memoir Patrice Chaplin began in City of Secrets continues here in the story of her spiritual initiation into the Kabbalistic tradition preserved since the Middle Ages by a secret society in the pre-Roman city of Girona, Spain. Salvador Dalí was a member of that society, as was the renowned author Umberto Eco, and the filmmaker Jean Cocteau. Importantly, so was the mysterious Berenger Sauniere, the priest who in the late 1800s built Rennes-le-Château in southern France, with the Tour Magdala, a tower that is twin to the neo-gothic tower in Girona. In this gripping story that reads like the adventures of a female Castenada, Chaplin is led through a series of initiatory stages which correspond to the magical square of Venus, containing the constellation of the Great Bear.

Patrice Chaplin is an internationally renowned playwright and author who has published more than 25 books, plays, and short stories. Her most notable work includes Albany Park, Siesta, which was made into a film staring Jodi Foster and Isabella Rossellini, Into the Darkness Laughing, Hidden Star, Night More >

Talk & Book Signing – Three Dangerious Magi: Osho, Gurdjieff, Crowley

Our second event this March is with P.T. Mistlberger, the author of the Three Dangerous Magi: Osho, Gurdjieff, Crowley

The idea of the ‘crazy wisdom teacher’ – a spiritual teacher who generally speaking works outside of conventional approaches (and often, outside of strict moral codes) is frequently misunderstood, and needless to say, wildly misused at times. The 20th century saw a number of famous (and infamous) ‘crazy wisdom teachers’, with three of the best known, and most notorious, being Aleister Crowley, G.I. Gurdjieff, and Osho (Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh). P.T. Mistlberger has experiential knowledge of the work of all three of these teachers (and others). In this talk he will discuss some of the matters of the crazy wisdom approach, and in particular how it is more relevant in modern times.

When? Thursday, March 17, 6.30pm to 7.30pm (free entry)
