The Way Up is Down (by Charles Eisenstein)
Feb 29th
By Charles Eisenstein (Article from Watkins’ Mind Body Spirit magazine, issue 29, February 2012)
Something is happening to us. Trying to make sense of their awakening experiences, people troll the Internet and discover the idea of “ascension” – the doctrine that humanity is on the verge of a process of spiritualization, a transition to a higher, and less material, dimension. Implicit in the term is the concept of rising above. Rising above what, may we ask? When did rising above become something to aspire to?
The concept has deep roots indeed, as old as civilization (though less old than humanity). When mass agriculture allowed a differentiation of labor, with farmers at the base of a hierarchy and the king at the top, the idea grew that to be working in the dirt was to be lowly, inferior, lesser. Often, the king’s feet were not allowed to touch the ground. He, along with the priests, occupied another realm, removed as much as possible from materiality. Indeed, they were seen as emissaries of the heavens, where the gods were believed to reside.
All of this was original to agricultural civilizations. Hunter-gatherers found their gods everywhere, not just in the sky but in the waters, rocks, mountains, and More >

Watkins’ Spiritual 100 List for 2012
Feb 12th
Watkins' Mind Body Spirit magazine issue 29 features the Spiritual 100
We are delighted to share with you our 2012 list of the 100 Most Spiritually Influential Living People. This marks the second year that we are publishing our 100 list. Last year’s list was extremely popular and we received a great deal of feedback. We’ve done our best to consider as many people as possible and our spiritual database includes the names of approximately 500 candidates. This list is meant to serve as a positive guide to some of the leading modern teachers that are alive today, and we hope that you are as inspired as we are by their impact. There are a few interesting newcomers to this year’s list. Meanwhile, we are sad to report that three members of last year’s list recently passed away: Kenneth Grant, Sai Baba, and Jerry Hicks.
There are several factors that were taken into account when compiling the list. The main three criteria are: 1) The person has to be alive 2) The person has to have made a unique and spiritual contribution on a global scale 3) The person is frequently googled, appears in Nielsen Data, and More >
Signings & Talks in January/February 2012
Feb 8th
We’ve started this year with 2 great events here at Watkins – a talk on modern divination system by Kevin Wilson and a lecture about crystals by Judy Hall.
January, 16, 2012 – 5.30pm – Kevin Wilson – Hon-Sho: A Modern Manual for Digital Divination
Kevin Wilson developed a method to uncover a personal digital DNA by using the natural numbering of letters to turn words into scores. By linking this digital label to ancient Chinese oracle reading called I Ching (The Book of Changes), he had stumbled across an unusual testing device which measures how a person’s character reacts every day to the coincidences which regularly bombard us all, which he describes in his book Hon-Sho.
February, 7, 2012 – 5.30pm – Judy Hall – 101 Power Crystals
Judy Hall, an author of the best-selling Crystal Bible series, is one of the top crystal experts in the world and has been using her extensive collection of crystals in her healing and divination work for almost thirty years. Tailor-made
Feb 5th
by Gavin Whyte
Gavin Whyte sees death and dying as the continuation of life – not the end of it. Gavin truly believes that when we fully accept death into our lives we will raise our vibration, which would naturally and organically lead us to living more compassionate, understanding and loving lives.
I was five years old when I had my first encounter with death. It was the first time I had seen my dad cry. He tried his best to sit me down and be still as he told me the heartbreaking news that my great grandma had died. I can remember hearing the news and then suddenly laughing; my dad’s face dropping even more so than before. And still to this day I cringe at the recollection of that moment; the confusion and frustration he must’ve felt. Did he think he’d brought some devilish child into the world? I’m not proud of the way I reacted, and I assure you I haven’t laughed at a death since (OK, maybe I have at ‘stupid deaths’ on BBC’s Horrible Histories), but I come back to that memory again and again and wonder why I reacted so insensitively.
